New System: Richmond Street WWPS Odour Treatment Plant

OdaTech recently completed installation of an odour control system in Cannington, WA.  While currently a retail & industrial area, it is earmarked for future housing development and it was determined by the Water Corporation that the current odour issues would not be acceptable once these developments were completed.

The system, which is similar to the one installed in 2015 for Flora Street WWPS, consists of six biofilters operating in a paralell 3×2 arrangement to ensure 99%+ removal, with a backup activated carbon polishing filter, to be used during infrequent system maintenance to ensure that there is no interruption in treatment.

New System – Mandurah Terrace WWPS

OdaTech recently completed installation of an odour control system for Mandurah Terrace Wastewater Pump Station, in the heart of Mandurah, Western Australia.  The site had been an ongoing issue as it is in the middle of a pedestrian retail and dining precinct and odours from the pump station had been causing complaints from local businesses.

City of Mandurah’s preference was for the entire pump station to be relocated to a nearby site, at a cost of many millions of dollars.  Instead, OdaTech were tasked with designing and installing a system which would effectively treat odours, stop complaints and not compromise the aesthetic appeal and easy pedestrian access of the area.  The installed system was a 6-unit OdaVent MHV system in a two-stage arrangement to treat up to 300m3/h of foul air ventilated from the pump station.  The biofilters themselves are entirely concealed underground, with only the control cubicle, fan and vent stack above ground, and are located some distance away with existing pump station control cabinets.

Since the system was installed in June 2016, no further odour complaints have been received from residents or local businesses, and performance testing shows better than 99% removal and treatment of odourous hydrogen sulphide gas.

Griffith City Council Wastewater Reclamation Plant Odour Control System

OdaTech recently completed installation of an odour control system to extract and treat foul air from the inlet works at the Griffith City Council Wastewater Reclamation Plant.  A full design, supply, install and commission contract was awarded through tender and OdaTech’s system is sized to treat up to 3000m3/h of foul air in a two-stage biofiltration process with backup activated carbon filter.

In addition to the system itself, all air extraction ductwork was designed and installed by OdaTech to ensure that all possible odour sources in the inlet works were adequately ventilated.

Benowa SPS: Odour treatment for balance tanks & wastewater infrastructure

OdaTech was recently awarded the contract to replace a poorly-performing odour control system in Benowa, Queensland.  The system used an alternative odour control technology and odours were still an issue, so we set about designing a system which would adequately ventilate and treat the foul air from the balance tank which was causing the issues.  The system, consisting four biofilters in a two-stage arrangement was designed to ensure that not only would foul air displaced by liquid inflow would be treated, but also that the head space in the tank would be continually ventilated to reduce the possibility of infrastructure corrosion.

Full design, supply and install was completed by OdaTech (we install systems across Australia) and odour complaints completely ceased after installation was completed.

Beechboro Road Air Valve: underground odour control for air valve pits

The Flora Street rising main has several air valves installed along its length.  These are designed to relieve built up air in the pressure main, but can also ventilate odorous gasses which lead to odour complaints.  This particular system is located very close to residential properties in a utility corridor – the neighbouring property’s fence can be seen in the picture.

The installed system is a two-stage system consisting two OdaVent MHV100 units treating air vented from the air valve.  It has no external power requirement and has completely silent operation – similar systems can be installed in street verges or driveways.  The system is designed to be as simple and low maintenance as possible, and requires only quarterly spot checks (<10 minutes) and media life is 3-5 years.   Since the system was installed, no further odour complaints have been received from residents.

 

Flora Street Pump Station: preventing odours and corrosion in water infrastructure

The Flora Street Wastewater Pump Station had been causing odour issues for the Water Corporation of Western Australia for many years.  Despite large land buffers around the pump station, the age of the station and the leaky sewer infrastructure in the nearby area meant that sealing the upstream wastewater collection system to prevent pressurised foul air being released into the atmosphere was near impossible.

Hydrogen Sulphide measurements taken within the wet well showed an average of 182ppm and maximum of 316ppm – highly concentrated and likely to be causing corrosion of sewer infrastructure in addition to the ongoing odour issues.  As complaints from nearby residents continued, OdaTech was contracted to design, manufacture and install an odour control facility which would ensure that the issue was resolved.

The odour control system, completed in June 2015, was designed to not only treat the foul air extracted from the wet well, but also to keep the upstream collection sewer mains under negative pressure so that air would not escape from nearby access covers and manholes, a number of which were also located on the site.

Since the system has been installed, loggers have recorded zero H2S at the treated air outlet, but in addition to that, average hydrogen sulphide within the wet well has dropped from an average of 182 to 20 ppm – significantly reducing the risk of corrosion damage within the sewerage infrastructure.  Nearby resident, Dave Knight, among other nearby residents who had been suffering through odour issues for the last three years, sent us this testimonial:

Denmark Wastewater Treatment Plant Odour Control System

OdaTech has continued its expansion into small-to-medium sized wastewater treatment plants with an odour control system installed in Denmark, Western Australia. The system, which utilised two OdaVent® SPSV1000 units is designed to fully treat air extracted from water treatment equipment at the plant. As with all our systems, it is designed to achieve 99%+ hydrogen sulphide (H2S) removal, uses entirely natural green treatment media and has now harmful chemical by-products.

OdaTech odour control systems can treat foul air flows of anywhere between 10 and 6000 cubic metres per hour, and all our systems are custom designed to ensure that best possible treatment performance is achieved.
